Project Idea

For the third unit within this photography course we are allowed to decided and explore our own chosen project, therefore I have chosen to study photographic realities. My interpretation of this is the way in which we see the world through a lens or image, however this may differ from what others would consider photographic realities to be.  I would also consider surrealism pieces which have been  through heavy editing are a main part of photographic realities as they display how a person can change a real place or scenario to suite their unique idea and concepts. When I was initially researching this idea I found very little on the topic as a whole, however I find it interesting as I can look at it from a variety of angles and show it in a vast amount of ways.
I wish to start off by trying basic ideas and developing on skills, such as close ups and wide angle. while advancing my knowledgeable of what my camera is capable of doing and adapting on my skills of what I am able to achieve through a photo editing program, like Photoshop.
I believe that this idea will allow me to explore many different ideas and gives me a wide enough starting point that I can try many different ideas which appeal to me allowing me to pursue unique and interesting ideas. Advancing on my ideas as my understanding grows.
I would like to study/try some of the bullet pointed ideas below;
  • Multiple flash
  • Photomontage
  • Surrealism
  • Dramatic Portraiture
  • Close Ups
I chose this topic as it interests me and will enable me to explore more than one area and develop on ideas and create unique pieces, for example adding a surrealism effect to a simple close up. I like how my project will enable me to look into many different artists and not have many limiting factors within my ability to explore techniques and view points. I briefly looked at a few artists before deciding on my finial idea although the artists would mainly focus of one area of which I plan to look into. I added two photographer to this project brief, one close up photography, as this is the technique I wish to look into first, and one surrealism photographer, as I wish to develop onto surrealism pieces towards the end of my project. By the end of my project I wish to have a variety of images which will show the development and joining of different techniques for example close ups within a surrealism pieces. I hope by joining the different techniques and ideas it will create different images and stretch my understanding and ability's.

Ross Hoddinott
I selected this photographer when looking at close ups. I feel he also demonstrates minimum depth of field within quite a few of his images. For example in the image the the left, I like how he has connected both of these techniques to provide good composition and focus to the image. I believe he is a great inspiration to try close ups. Ross Hoddinott has a variety of intriguing images which represent his skills and ability's to create amazing close up images.

Ronen Goldman
I chose this surrealism photographer to show a very talented and skilled photographer and how a photography can show a reality in which we do not see. The piece is called the magician and appears to show him controlling the cards. I like how Ronen Goldmen challenges realities and boundaries within his images.
Where I plan to start

I will start my project by exploring certain techniques and types of editing before proceeding with my main shoots and finial images. This is due to the relevance of these techniques to my overall project. I plan to be successful within this technique before later using them within more detailed and interesting shoots which will be my main shoot for the project.
