Photographer Research- Amy spanos

WHY I CHOSE AMY SPANOS

Amy Spanos is an overall amazing photographer, she takes creative images for couples, weddings and general portraits. She manipulates some of her images to create photos which are good examples of photographic realties. She is a photographer which is local to Harlow which intrigues me more as to how and where she creates her images

I choose Amy Spanos to research in further depth as I have researched her in the past and found her work very interesting and unique. I think that when I went back to look at her work I found that she has many pieces which would relate to my chosen topic and she had explored a variety of ideas which could help me develop within this project. Her surrealist idea and images reflect an exteremly creative side and reflects great ability and understanding of photography and the manipulation of images.

EVALUATIONS

I like how this image gives the appearance that the women is in the water although she probably wasn't when the image was taken. Making people question how this image was taken and adjusted to create this affect. Amy Spanos has created many techniques like this and I like the idea behind it.  This images provides a link between man and nature. Reflection is an important aspect within this image. The positioning of the women creates an interesting angle and reflection. This reflection also helps to create a distort version of the colours, blending the greens, skin tone and white. The shadows and dark shades within this image create a confusing atmosphere due to their contrast with the white dress. Contrasting this idea of innocence of white and dark atmosphere produced from the dark shades.

I like how this images makes me think about how it was taken. I think that the positioning of the person helps create a relaxed feel to the image. The message portrayed in this image is how people escape to a peaceful place. A bedroom and bed is seen as a private place where people can relax and forget about worries to sleep and be calm. The scenery around the women help to show and empathise this particular idea involving escape.

I really like this image I think it creates a horror effect and a scary atmosphere in the image. There are different areas which help create this, The way in which her head shows her squeezing through and looks quite intimidating. Making people question if a person could truly fit and why was they in there in the first place. A feeling of being trapped in a unexpected area is represented within this image and highlights anxiety. The dark colours form her hair against the white from the machine implies a contrast to the way in which good could can be consumed by dark.

The image to the right is interesting due to the focal points and way in which particular areas are in focus. Although all the background is blurred the rope on the left hand side still stands out within the image. The women is clothed in very neutral colours to help increase the impact made form the blood dripping down her shirt. One message from this image could be how what we say in controlled by having our mouths on a hock. This idea is displayed throughout how taught the rope is from her mouth however lose in the blurred part of the rope hanging. This suggests someone is holding the rope at a particular area.
INFLUENCE

I find Amy Spanos work to have a unique perspective, I like how she has looked at a variety of different styles. She tested her abilities and continues to develop on her ideas and styles which is inspiration. This aspect of her had inspired me to create different idea and not be afraid that ideas won't work out as planned and to develop from imperfections.

SUMMARY

To summarise Amy Spanos I would say she has been a very influential photographer within my work and has contributed to my wide variety of ideas. This particular photographer has enhanced her images and there message throughout the tones and contrasts she provided within her work.
