Finial Project Evaluation (With Electronic Portfolio)
Electronic portfolio from gracie
Above is my electronic portfolio along which contain my top 40 images. (However some animations within the power point appear to not be working they can be seen within other posts on my blog)
Overall I think I have approached this topic in a very interesting and unique way which represent my style and ideas. I am pleased with how I have developed my skills involving both my camera and within photographic editing software such as Photoshop. I decided to start this project by exploring different technique before exploring onto more surreal images.
I think I produced a section of images and gave a general idea of photographic realities.

Connecting Essay Five
INTERNET IMAGE
This is an example of Annie Leibovitz portraiture work. Her images are very strong and powerful displaying strong emotions. The image to the left is of a famous singer. I like how the flow of her hair has been used to create a more dramatic atmosphere. The model is positioned slightly off center and to the right, I think this composition works so well due to the position of her hair. The women flawless skin and depth within her facial features help to enhance the powerful and dramatic feel of the image. The harsh greys and blacks within this image also help to create a dramatic image, these type of tones often link to dark and powerful images and therefore help to link her to this idea.
OWN IMAGE
CONNECTING THE IMAGES
In my opinion both image show powerful women. A mixture of tones are used to enhance this idea of power. Movement is displayed within both images, the suggested movement of the womens hair in the first image and the movement of her eyes and face shown through the animation in the second image. Both movements help to highlight the dramatic feel of the image. I think both images show women power and impact on society.
Connecting Essay Four
INTERNET PHOTOGRAPH
I like how this image shows two different time frames. This is an interesting way to show a place at two different points within its timeline displaying the differences or changes which have occurred. These two images appear to be very similar however the model is placed differently and more to the right. This piece potentially shows a person recreated an image from the past. A vintage feel is given to this picture from the tones and the contrast the image holds. I also think that a aspect of surrealism is produced from this image as we are unsure as to if the women displayed in both images are the same. The idea that someone is showing a replica of the place within the image through a photograph is very intriguing and creates this usual and different surreal image.
OWN PHOTOGRAPH
I like how this image has been created. I feel that it is a modern version of a image within an image. The image appears to have a very basic idea, however a message of this image could be lack of appreciation within today's society due to technological advances. This interpretation comes from the focus of the phone and blur of the sculpture, this shows how people are seeing life through a phone and are sharing every experience they have online instead of enjoying it at the time. Displaying the negative side of social media and how it impacts our life. The cool and natural colours within this image help to display a neutral atmosphere allowing people to have different interpretation of the image.
CONNECTING THE IMAGES
Both images are based on the same concept of an image within an image. These images show a particular place or object twice within the piece, enhancing the subject of the image. Neutral colours are displayed within both pieces and no bright tones are used, showing how both photographs lack a very positive atmosphere. However the images are very different in what they show. The online image shows a replica of the place at a different time however the second image displays a second version of what is seen within the image at that time. Another difference of the images is how the first image required editing and more time to be able to show a recreation of a place/ event, however my own image required no editing as it showed a replica of the main feature in the image through the persons phone which was happening at the time of the image being captured.

Print Techniques
MONTAGE
This image was created within my second shoot (from my mains 13 shoots). I created this montage of images to provide a fun and creative atmosphere to the image. Below is a link where I describe how the image was produced.
BLACK AND WHITE
I created the above image within my tenth shoot (From my main 13) as a multiple exposure piece. How I created the multiple exposure aspect is explained within my work diary for this shoot. I decided to make this image black and white to enhance the dramatic feel of the piece. This effect was very easy to create. To the left is a screenshot showing the setting I used to create this particular effect on the image. I simply chose a black and white adjustment and changed the settings according to how the image looked and what I felt worked best.
OVERLAY
I created this overlay effect within my tenth shoot. I decided to do a shoot on multiple exposure as iIfind it an interesting area of photographic realities, however my camera does not have this option therefore I produce the images within Photoshop.
A detailed explanation of how I created these images is within my work diary for this shoot which I have linked below.
IMAGE WITHIN AN IMAGE
No Photoshop editing was required for this particular image within an image as I photographed a person taking an image of the stature as I feel it has produced a very interesting piece.
IMAGE WITHIN TEXT
I really like how this effect can create such a powerful image. I like how the writing is more clear is certain places highlighting particular words. The way in which I created this image is described below.
Firstly I changed the image into black and white before proceeding to cropped the image and changing any background behind her hair into black with the brush tool, however I only done this on the right side. I added a new layer which is labeled as background copy. I created a box which covered half her face with the edge aliened with the middle of her face and filled it with black. I then used the text tool to create the outline for the text shown. I adjusted the size and font to how I felt it fit the image and placed it where desired. I used the quick selection tool to select the text before clicking on to the background copy and deleting the previously selected area. This allowed the image to be seen through part of the left hand side which was covered in black. I then adjusted the brightness on part of the image on my left hand side so the words could be seen more clearly.
SELECTIVE COLOUR
I like how selective colour can be used to enhance certain colours within an image. I like how this image shows the bright red colours of the berry's yet still show the frost on the branches. Helping to enhance the Christmas feel to the image due to the link Christmas has with this colour. I created this image by adding a black and white adjustment and then rubbing out the areas which contained the red berry. For this to work the foreground colour must be white.
DUOTONE
I experimented with the technique duotone as I think colour is an important aspect of many images and is what appeals and attracts many people. By adjusting tones and colours it can change the atmosphere and produce a different or more powerful image. I am really happy with the way in which this image looks and the way in which the dark purples fade into a more pale and bright purple to the right. Enhancing the fading parts of the girl. To the left is a screenshot of when I was applying the colours, I chose this purple and grey as I thought it produced a nice effect.
I created this duotone by the following steps.
- Select 'Image' then 'Mode' and chose 'Greyscale'. This is allow you to use the duo tone
- Select 'Image' then 'Mode' and chose 'Duotone'. The option similar to above with be shown. However only one colour can be chosen Select 'Type' and chose 'Duotone'. This will them show two colour options and adjust the individual colours as desired.
- To save the duotone as a jpeg one step must be carried out. Select 'Image' then 'Mode' and chose 'RGB Colour' This will then allow the file to be saved as a jpeg.
CLUSTER
I like how this cluster technique helps to separate certain parts of the image, for this particular image it has enhanced the detail of the grass. I created this technique by first creating a template for the technique. I created the template by creating a new document with two layers and then adding a clipping mask. I adjusted the effect on the template and added a drop shadow. I then only needed to place the image on the document. Once the placed the image on to template it displayed as shown below I then had to adjust the document/ image so the clipping mask worked for the image. The individual layers are shown within the screenshot below.
LINKED WITHIN MY PROJECT
These images link to my project due to the extensive work I have done within Photoshop and how this project has been about developing my ability within Photoshop and use of my camera. I think the print techniques which I have done also help to enhance formal elements which are important within the given image. Overall I am happy with how these print techniques have allowed a further development of my images within Photoshop. I like all the images produced from the adjustments described above and have pleased with the overall quality and look of the images.
Computer Experiments
COMPUTER EXPERIMENT ONE

I experimented with this photo to enhance tones and colours, helping to create a more interesting and exciting piece. I am extremely pleased with how this image turned out and like the contrasts and tones within this image. To create this computer experiment I completed the following steps described and shown on the screenshot.
- Added a threshold adjustment at level 112
- Rubbed out part of this layer/adjustment at her head and hair
- Added a posterize adjustment (Levels: 4)
COMPUTER EXPERIMENT TWO

I experimented with this GIF to reflect the opening of someone eyes to the real world and horrors which it faces. I first added a black and white adjustment to the first image of the closed eyes to show how the girl is closed from society and in the dark from current issues and views. I then added a hue and saturation adjustment to both layers with a saturation of plus 6 and lightness of plus 21. I added this effect to create a haze look to the image. I like how it creates a different message of the image and displays a more powerful piece.
COMPUTER EXPERIMENT THREE

I created this computer experiment to enhance the red shades created from a natural sunset. Although these colours have been adjusted I feel it has allowed this image to create a greater impact on views due to the bright colours within this image. To create this image I added a channel mixer with the following setting shown within the zoomed in screenshot.
COMPUTER EXPERIMENT FOUR

For this computer experiment I only made one adjustment to the image using the liquify tool. I opened the liquify tool and moved my brush around in circle motions on the hair to create this effect on the image. I decided to create this to experiment with the green and purple colours. I am pleased with how the colours have been adjusted and the strong contrast it produces.
COMPUTER EXPERIMENT FIVE

After 'solarize' |
After adding a brightness and contrast adjustment |
Edited Picture |
For this experiment I took a picture from my high key shoot and adjusted it as shown above. Firstly I added a solarize effect which gave the model this blue look and black background. I like the way in which it enhances the models hair and posture. I then added a brightness of 18 and contrast of 70 followed by a black and white effect, producing this dramatic image with usual tones.
