Work Diary- Shoot 12(Miniatures)

Plans and expectations

For this shoot I plan to work on displaying one person in variety of way within one image. I will do this by adjusting a persons size and add them into one image multiple times. The person will appear in slightly different sizes and give the illusion of miniature versions of themselves

Evaluation

One problem with this shoot is I only had one successful image, this image is shown to the left. I found this to be an extremely challenging yet interesting shoot. Taking images for this shoot was difficult as I had to take images which I would be able to adjust as desired and add to the background, which is a image of the boys feet placed on the table. This image required a lot of editing and adjustments before this finial piece being shown was created. I first started by taking a series of images of the boy along with what is used as the background. I then re-sized the images of the miniatures and placed them on top of the background. I processed to rub out the ares around the person for each image, this was a very time consuming process however was the only way in which no parts of the person was lost and the how the most realistic image could be created. I spend a long time adjusting the images positioning and adding shadows. The screenshot to the right shows most of the layers which was involved. Each layer means a miniature or part of a miniature. The labeled them to eliminate any confusion whilst editing.

Overall I think the time and effort I spent on this image has paid off and I am extremely happy with the finial image. it has displayed a person at different point within a given time frame and displays a variety of ways in which they relax.

Progression

Although I wont be working on this idea again if I was to capture images like this I would work on a more interesting piece similar to some of Ari Mahardhika who inspired me to create this image. I think it would be interesting to show some more complex ideas within a technique like this.

(Unfortunately shortly after creating the document with each person saved as a layer I lost all the images from this shoot and therefore do not have a contact sheet for this image.)

Work Diary- Shoot 11(Multiple People)

Plans and expectations

For this shoot I am going to go outside and use a tripod to take a selection of images with a person in a different positions within one frame. I plan to then edit them as I did for my sequence images which I previously worked on.

Evaluation

Above are the two images produced from this shoot. I am extremely pleased with how this images look and like how it shows people relaxing or enjoying nature. I used a focal length of 44mm along with a shutter speed of 1/125 seconds with ISO 100 and f setting of 4.0. I really like this technique and how the people are positioned. Although these two images do not hold a deep and meaningful message I think this technique could be used to create images which create great inspiration and demonstrate powerful ideas. I like the surrealist effect the image is given due to the vast amount of versions shown of on person within the image. The multiple positions of one person create a clear scene of movement shown through the images.
I created these images the same way in which I created the previous created my sequencing image. Below is a link to a detailed explanation on how I created these images.

Progression

I like this technique and the surreal images which it creates, however I hope to develop this idea and technique more by next working on miniatures. I think this is an interesting concept to show multiple versions of the person within one image, I think it helps to display a persons direction.

Connecting Essay Three

INTERNET PHOTOGRAPH

Created by Ari Mahardhika
This type of image is not only comical but also portrays a good message as to how a person thinks about tiny little things to complete a task and how the mind wanders onto other thoughts. The artist has used many versions of one person all within a different position to create a general idea along with some other concepts underneath. He has also tackled some society issues within this image showing the person on the right hand side sitting on the camera which two man are carrying. This particular miniature of the man is shown to be directing certain people whilst suggesting he is making the people works harder my adding unnecessary weight which they have to carry. Showing how people with power often take advantage of people they have power of to get where they wish to be with minimal effort on their behalf without thinking about the others it affects or how it makes other jobs more difficult. Some people are shown to be intrigued spectators whilst two people in the left had connor are shown playing leap frog. The mixture of serious tones, childish behavior and general idea of a task being completed in a much more complicated way then necessary help to create this comical atmosphere. These miniatures helps to show all the thought process of the person and reflect how a person mind can wonder and how people overthink a simple task.

OWN PHOTOGRAPH

I really like this image. It required a lot of effort and multiple shoots and practices to ensure the images would work and fit together. I like how the image has a relaxed atmosphere and model is not doing to any out of the ordinary activities and helps to produce this overall calm feel to the image. The dark tones which the boy in wearing also help to enhance a calm atmosphere  the image expresses. The image can be interpreted in a variety of way ,however I think it shows a variety of positions and way in which someone relax, each person suggests they are calm and doing something simple or just laying or sitting down thinking. The large main feet within the image also help to back this calm atmosphere as the person has there feet up on what could be classed as a coffee table due to the height, which people do when they are relaxing in the comfort of their own home.  I think I used just the right amount of miniature within  this piece to not make it a manic and clustered image. The amount of miniatures I used helps to show a selection of frames which the person is set in and a variety of positions throughout a time span. Capturing frames from a particular part of someones life or day and displaying them in this particular way is interesting as it shows them within one image and has a intriguing initial impact. This may make people think of how little they do for them self's and within a day how many times could they say they have stepped back and relaxed, it could also have the reverse effect and make people think they don't do enough and need to throw themselves into more actives and enjoy life and not just let it pass them by.

CONNECTING THE IMAGES

Although the images reflect very different ideas they have been created in a very similar concept. I created my piece under the inference of Ari Mahardhika, however I wanted to create a more relaxed and less chaotic image. Both images appear to have created in a very similar manor and have been used to enhance the attraction of an image and highlight a desired message through a usual technique. The artist image shows how a mind works during a task where as my images shows the opposite to this and shows how a person relaxes and potentially boredom. However both images have at least one miniature doing something different to the general idea of the image. In my piece it is the person with the open planner and in the online image it could be classed as the two playing leap frog and displaying child like behavior. These images mainly link due to the extensive work require to produce one piece and how the artist has to work on positioning, re-sizing and shadows to ensure an effective image.

INTERNET PHOTOGRAPH

I like how the above image is displayed. The shoes have been placed on a wet surface which creates the distort reflection of what appears to be the person. This image is interesting due to the way in which it was created. Images which question how they were made appeal to me as it is a piece which is more then just appealing to the eye. I think this image would have been created from two individual images, one photograph of a model placed within the shoes creating this shadow displayed and another with the model out of shoot however having the shoes is the same position. This particular image could be interpreted in a variety of ways. A way in which I like to see this image is as the emotional footprint people leave behind, this may not mean essentially after death but however after an ending of a bad relationship and therefore could be positive or negative. Some people could also link this image to the saying 'Never judge someone till you have walked a mile in their shoes'. I feel that people could link it to this saying as the shadow could represent a past or dark present yet to come. Also by the shoes being empty it is left for us to image who is going to fill them again linking to the previously stated common saying.

OWN PHOTOGRAPH

The image to the right was simple to create in comparisons to other pieces. I like how it has a very basic surrounding filled with an average street. Creating a contrast between an unusual idea of the shadow with the pain surroundings. One way in which I like to view the message for this image is a change of direction. The long shadow could represent a limit within someones current life and the need to expand more. By leaving the shoes empty it may suggest a person leaving them to look for another direction in life. However there is a comical side of this images created by how the shadow of the person does not include the head and appears to be cut off at the end of the pavement.

CONNECTION OF IMAGES

A message which can be interpreted from both images could be how people leave a mark when they leave. However the two images have created different atmospheres through the tones used within the photographs. My own image includes colours, Such as greens, producing a more calming atmosphere. Where as the other image is in black and white and has a main focus on the shadow creating a very dramatic feel to the piece. Although the shadows of both images are positioned differently creating a different composition both image have a strong focal point of the shadows. The images would have also been created in a very similar way.

Connecting Essay One

INTERNET PHOTOGRAPH

The above image is an example of Graham Owen work.I really like how this image has been shown. I think the black and white effect helps to enhance the shape and texture of the flower. Also the water droplets are highlighted due to the lack of colour used within the image. The small water droplets on the plant as well help to create an interesting image. This aspect of the image also help to display two areas of nature. Weather and plants are shown through this image and how plants have a natural deference system and can cope with different weathers. I find this image to be very fascinating and have an extraordinary, dramatic feel.

OWN PHOTOGRAPH

This image is from my third shoot. I really like how this image looks and the way in which you can see a small water droplet falling down the wood on the right hand side. This images combined a man made object and a natural event. I think the colours used here help to create a calm and relaxing atmosphere.

CONNECTING THE IMAGES

In my option these images link due to how both close ups uses two separate subjects within the images. The photograph by Graham Owen includes a flower and water droplets where as my image includes a outdoors piece of furniture and snow and water droplets. I think in both images water is used to create a more interesting piece. Both images shows natural patterns and show the natural lines and curves within nature. In my opinion both images has used a variety of formal element to create intriguing pieces.

Work Diary- Shoot 10(Multiple exposure)

Plans and expectations

For this shoot I plan explore multiple exposure image. My camera does not have the ability to be able to create multiple exposure images therefore I will take a selection of images and adjust them within Photoshop.

Evaluations

Above are the two images I used to create the multiple exposure image shown below. Before I shoot for this Shoot I decided to use a photo I had taken previously and try a few of the technique which was shown online. I thought this would help me take the images as I would be able to take images which I know would work as a multiple exposure image and I was able to edit later on. All the video which I watched to help create this multiple exposure are listed below however they was all very complex or unique to the individual images. As it can be seen in the screenshot to the right the ways in which I tried required a lot of layers and adjustments, his made it very confusing at some points. I therefore researched more into how I could create the effect. I found a much simpler way and decided to use this for the next images within my shoot. To the left is the finial piece I  had after trying to combined the two images I feel that the image could be much better however after spending so much time on it I decided to more on and go out and take images which I  knew would work.

(One other video which I used has since been removed from you tube, however it was very similar to the ones linked above)

The screenshot to the left show how simple it was to create this image. I dragged the image of the girl onto the image of the trees. I then adjusted the blend setting in a variety of ways before deciding to use the setting 'lighten' this option can be seen about the layers on the right hand side. This created this effect. I made a few further adjustments and was done. I think this effect works very well and has create a variety of intriguing pieces, I really like how this has displays different textures and created some unique colours. Below is the two separate images used to create this piece.

Progression

I really enjoyed shooting for this shoot. I think it has created very interesting images and has helped me think more about the individual images before taking them and consider which images will be successful. This shoot has been an overall large learning experience for me due to the amount of work I done within Photoshop and how much it has increased my knowledge within Photoshop.

Work Diary- Shoot 9(Image within an image)

I took these two image to display image within an image. Although the the above images did not require editing like some of the previous image within an image photos I think they still have a good effect. I think by doing this it helps to displays the main subjects of the image importance to other people. This is because many people are displayed taking images of it showing their interesting with the subject, in this case the stature or the Eiffel tower. Both image display a calm and natural atmosphere however have a negative message. I think the image to left show peoples lack of appreciation of a famous landmark as they all view it from the screen of their smartphones. and not appreciation its beauty from their own eyes . Showing how people care more about sharing their lives and where they have been on social media and gaining likes the enjoying life for themselves at the time. I think the image to the right also displays this general idea and the issue which we have within society today.
